oatmeal fest

to me, there is absolutely nothing more comforting than a bowl of oatmeal in the morning. its so humble, but so versatile that there is no end to the magical things you can do to it. so last year, in an effort to help me re-acclimate from a year in sunny indonesia to the freezing darkness that is december in utah, my sister and i started oatmeal fest. every morning for the entire month of december we make some amazing oatmeal creation to celebrate the goodness of it and to give ourselves just a shred of comfort before heading out to face the snow, or wind in the case of today.

so i kickstarted day 1 of oatmeal fest today with a huge bowl of oat bran with berries, a dap of coconut oil, lots and lots of honey, and a splash of rice milk.

the perfect way to start the day.

what do you like best on your oatmeal? any suggestions for something unusual?
happy december *^^

cheers

Wowie Flan, are those steel-cut oats? I do appreciate your post as I am also on a foray into breakfast grains.
Millet can be a scrumptious breakfast grain but it must be rinsed in a fine mesh strainer before boiling.
Cousin Lauren suggested quinoa with agave for breakfast.
Your toppings look perfect.
Finally, if you click my icon you can see pics of our Vegan Thanksgiving, which most certainly was inspired by your Raw Feast of yesteryear! Thanks and keep on sharing dearest!! <3

sarah-- they're oat bran! its milled whole oats that cook super fast and are delectably creamy.
ooh millet.. i've only ever tried it in salads and bread..but sounds like a porridge is in order now. and i have tried quinoa as a breakfast for a change from oats, its really good.

wow! it looks like you guys had a great feast, i'm very impressed ;)
